Today, I posted a very special box of cookies to a very special person and his lucky colleagues. My boyfriend, J, has passed his 6 month probation at work and ordered a big batch of Chocolate Pig (chocolate and bacon), Terry’s Nutkins (choc orange and pecan) and Mojito (lime, mint and rum) to celebrate. Now, I’m slightly concerned that J’s colleagues won’t get to try these cookies. J is a Chocolate Pig. His biggest weakness is chocolate. I think the cookies are going to be a bit of a temptation. J probably holds the world record for speed eating a bag of Maltesers, and after he ate the Easter egg that his parents had given him to give to me last year, I generally don’t trust him to be alone with any sweet treats! I’m hoping that 50 cookies, however, is beyond even his appetite and he manages to share.
I’ve been helping Cupid spread the love this Valentine’s with Cupid’s Cookie: a heart shaped cookie with delicate rose petals scattered amongst milk and white chocolate chunks. I didn’t want the perfume of the rose to be too overpowering, but with a few test batches sampled by ever willing tasters, it’s just right. Delicate but seductive! It’s a love potion cookie! I can’t guarantee that the person you give it to will fall in love with you, but they probably will fall in love with the cookie. I’m wondering what floral cookie will be next. I’ve worked with lavender and rose now…maybe geranium! Or violet!
Happy New Year Kookie Monsters! I hope your January has been most enjoyable so far and none of you have been struck down with the dreaded January blues. If you have fallen victim to post-Christmas gloom, get in touch and I’ll sort you out with some cookies! That’ll make you feel better!
Relaxation has been the theme for me. December was cookie crazy! I was posting cookies all over the place and had a great time at the Discovery Channel Christmas Fayre. I’ve got lots of photos of Christmas baking to share so I’ll let the pictures do the talking. They will all be up on the Kooksville Facebook page soon!

Christmas cookie experiments are well under way in the Kooksville kitchen. I started trying to make a mulled wine inspired cookie – wine soaked fruit, orange zest and spices – but have put this aside for now, as the challenge of getting enough wine flavour into the cookies requires a lot more work…and there’s only 32 days until Christmas! I may work on these in January, using reduced port which will have a much stronger flavour. For now, I’m going with something a little less subtle…
